Event Type: NHI Seminar Series
Date/Time: 10/22/2009 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST
Approval Status: Confirmed
Description:
The years after World War II were prosperous across America, and especially in Florida. Not only did the State have to meet the demands of its growing population, including building the infrastructure to support it, but it also had to support the growing citrus, space, and tourism industries. Then, the Florida Turnpike and the National Interstate and Defense Highways Acts were signed within a year of each other. To say the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) had a need for Professional Engineers is an understatement. For more than 50 years, the FDOT Professional Engineer Training Program has taken college graduates with civil engineering degrees and provided them with broad practical experience in the field of transportation engineering, leading to registration as a licensed professional engineer. The program also provides training in supervisory and management techniques to prepare them for increasingly responsible positions within the department. In this webinar, we will: 1. explore the critical components of the program¿s longevity and success 2. identify best practices 3. discuss lessons learned 4. share resources to help you identify critical positions within your own organization to which this model may be applied.
